Butter Biscuit Treats

Yeah, another bakerman idea! I’ve made these a while ago for a charity event and thought that they would be perfect as a bakerman treat for the kids. They can be made a week in advanced and the kids can have fun with the decorating. All you really need is some cellophane packets and ribbon to put the biscuits in (Can be purchased at Plasti-Pak).  See below picture.

Butter Biscuits

Not only do they look stunning, but the kids can have 1 and save some for later.

I used the Butter Biscuit Recipe from Cape Malay Cooking & Other Delights. It’s fairly easy to make and uses ingredients that are always in the pantry!  See below for recipe.

Butter biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 75g castor sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 65ml oil
  • 250g butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 500g plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Method:

Cream butter until soft, then stir in oil. Add castor sugar and beat until light and fluffy. The consistency should be smooth and creamy. Add vanilla essence and beat well. Beat in egg. Sift flour and baking powder and mix into creamed mixture to make a fairly stiff dough. Roll out dough to 3-4 mm thick on a lightly floured surface and cut out shapes with biscuit cutters. Place on baking sheets. Decorate biscuits with angelica and glace cherries and bake at 180 C  for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.
